World Thrombosis Day 2025 global advocacy awards now open for nominations

Carrboro, N.C. – The International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis (ISTH) announced today that the call for nominations is now open for the World Thrombosis Day (WTD) 2025 Advocacy Awards. Nominations will be accepted until July 21, 2025. These annual awards recognize outstanding contributions to blood clot awareness and education globally.

The awards program, now in its eighth year, honors exceptional advocates and organizations working to increase public knowledge about thrombosis, which affects millions worldwide annually.

Patient Ambassador of the Year Award

This award recognizes an individual from the thrombosis community who has demonstrated extraordinary commitment to blood clot awareness and education. Eligible nominees include thrombosis advocates, patients, survivors, community volunteers or organization representatives.

Qualified candidates must have:

  • Led or supported impactful thrombosis awareness activities
  • Demonstrated passion for the WTD mission
  • Motivated others within the thrombosis advocacy community
  • Implemented innovative approaches to blood clot education

The selected Patient Ambassador will receive a $1,000 donation to a thrombosis organization of his or her choice. He/she will also have the opportunity to serve as a patient representative on the WTD Steering Committee for a term of up to two years. The winner will also be widely recognized across WTD’s communication platforms.

Healthcare professionals and WTD steering committee members (past or current) are not eligible for this award.

2025 Activity of the Year Award

This award celebrates successful and creative thrombosis awareness events conducted during 2024. This award is offered in two categories:

  • Partner organization from a high-income country
  • Partner organization from a low or middle-income country

Eligible organizations include healthcare facilities, hospital departments, awareness organizations, NGOs and advocacy groups that are registered WTD partners. Both virtual and in-person activities receive equal consideration.

Each winning organization will receive a $1,000 USD donation to their organization, a complimentary exhibition booth at the next ISTH annual congress and visibility on WTD’s global communication channels.

Individuals and organizations may submit nominations through the official WTD website. Self-nominations are encouraged.

Note: The WTD awards are reviewed and winners are selected by the WTD Award Selection Committee. Please note that if a Steering Committee member represents an Activity of the Year partner organization, they are removed from judging to ensure a fair and unbiased review.
