Penumbra and ISTH(R) World Thrombosis Day campaign join forces for new thrombosis management toolkit

September 17, 2025

Chapel Hill, N.C., United States, September 17, 2025 — The World Thrombosis Day campaign, led by the International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis (ISTH), together with Penumbra, Inc., today announced the release of a new educational toolkit focused on thrombosis management options.

The educational toolkit on the management of thrombosis, provides both patients and healthcare professionals with key information about blood clot management and decision-making processes.

The toolkit covers multiple management approaches, including anticoagulants, thrombolytic therapy, mechanical thrombectomy, computer-assisted vacuum thrombectomy (CAVT) and vena cava filters. Each section explains how procedures work, their benefits and when they may be most appropriate for patient care.

“Managing thrombosis can be complex, with many factors influencing care,” said Shruthi Narayan, president of Interventional Business at Penumbra. “That’s why patient education is essential. Understanding their condition and the latest treatment options available empowers patients to take an active role in their health. In collaboration with ISTH, we’ve developed this toolkit to provide important resources that help patients make informed decisions about their care.”

The Thrombosis Management Toolkit emphasizes the importance of working closely with healthcare professionals to determine individualized care strategies. It includes a dedicated section on communicating with healthcare providers, as well as recommended questions that patients can ask their provider about including management options and recovery expectations.

In conjunction with the toolkit launch, the World Thrombosis Day campaign also updated its online resources regarding thrombosis treatment. The new content complements the toolkit and offers additional scientific research and references.
