New podcast episode: Anxiety in patients with venous thromboembolism (VTE)
Check out the latest episode of The ISTH Pulse podcast, “Silent burden: Unveiling the overlooked psychological impact of VTE,” in recognition of World Thrombosis Day. In this new episode, podcast host Geoff Barnes, M.D., speaks with Daniel Steiner, M.D., Ph.D., of the Medical University of Vienna in Austria. Listen to the full episode here.
Steiner reveals the results of a new study on the psychological consequences of VTE, which was published in the Journal of Thrombosis and Haemostasis (JTH).
Among its many findings, the study indicates that while most patients with VTE reported reduced anxiety over time, some patients experienced worsening anxiety. Female sex, older age, more anxiety at baseline, no VTE history, and DVT were associated with increased anxiety three months after VTE.
Cihan Ay, M.D., Ph.D., a member of the WTD Steering Committee, was a co-author of the paper. Listen to the conversation now — it is an important listen for healthcare professionals, patients, and advocates alike.
