WTD Partner Spotlight: Russian Anti-Thrombotic Forum
The Russian Anti-Thrombotic Forum continues to strengthen its position as one of the world’s key platforms for dialogue on the most pressing issues in cardiology, hematology, and vascular medicine. In October 2025, the capital of Russia once again welcomed leading specialists at the III All-Russian Congress with International Participation “Thrombosis Day in Russia,” which for the first time was held under the official auspices of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS). This event marks a new stage in the consolidation of scientific forces to combat a disease that remains one of the leading causes of mortality worldwide.
A powerful symbolic gesture preceded the opening of the forum, aimed at bringing the issue from the walls of clinics into public space. The Ostankino Tower the architectural symbol of Moscow was illuminated in the colors of the Russian Anti-Thrombotic Forum. This light installation serves as a vivid reminder to millions of the city’s residents and visitors about the importance of the thrombosis problem. It is not merely an illumination but a global signal of solidarity, a call to raise awareness, and the beginning of the serious professional dialogue that unfolded during the congress.
A Forum of Highest Expertise: Interdisciplinary Dialogue Under the Auspices of the RAS.
The main distinguishing feature of the past forum was the level of its scientific leadership. The speakers included authoritative experts from the Russian Academy of Sciences from various fields of medicine, as well as colleagues from other countries:
- Marco Cattaneo, Professor, Head of the Medical Unit at Ospedale San Paolo, University of Milan (Italy).
- Grigorios Gerotziafas, Head of the Thrombosis Center at Hôpital Saint-Antoine, Professor at Sorbonne University (France).
- Ismail Elalamy, Consultant in Thrombosis and Hemostasis at the American Hospital of Paris, Professor, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at University of Marrakesh (France/Morocco).
- Cihan Ay, Professor of Hematology, Head of the Vienna Thrombosis & Hemostasis Research Group (Medical University of Vienna, Austria). Member of the Steering Committee for World Thrombosis Day (ISTH).
This ensured exceptional depth of discussion. Cardiologists, oncologists, surgeons, therapists, and hematologists combined their knowledge for a comprehensive discussion on the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of thrombotic complications from venous thromboembolism to strokes and heart attacks.
This approach continues the successful tradition of previous years when the 2024 congress gathered over a thousand specialists, and in 2025 its work was personally opened by the Minister of Health of the Russian Federation, Mikhail Murashko.
More Than a Conference: A Mission to Change Standards.
With the support of key state institutions, such as the Central Clinical Hospital of the Administrative Directorate of the President of the Russian Federation, and leading professional societies (the Russian Society of Cardiology, the Russian Society of Clinical Oncology RUSSCO), it serves as a platform for developing consensus recommendations and improving clinical practices across the country.
The Ostankino Tower illuminated in red and the substantial scientific program at the “President-Hotel” are two sides of the same coin. They symbolize the union of a public awareness campaign and high-level professional dialogue. The concluded congress under the auspices of the RAS has set new benchmarks in the interdisciplinary approach to solving the thrombosis problem, continuing to strengthen the status of Russian medicine as an important hub for the global medical community.
