WTD Partners in Ireland Join Together for “Stop the Clot 2019 Roadshow”
The World Thrombosis Day (WTD) campaign is proud to share the tremendous work by its partners in Ireland for WTD 2019.
The Ireland East Hospital Group and Thrombosis Ireland are hosting a multi-city national roadshow called “Stop the Clot 2019” to build awareness and educate the community, patients, and healthcare professionals about thrombosis, commonly known as blood clots. Specifically, the roadshow aims to provide educate about the risk of acquiring venous thromboembolism (VTE) in the hospital and for up to 90 days following discharge from the hospital. With about 5,000 VTE cases occurring in Ireland each year, about half of them are hospital acquired.
The roadshow launched on 10 September 2019 in Wexford, Ireland, and will run until WTD on 13 October 2019. The roadshow features a “Stop the Clot” red bus that visits each city with information and resources for the community. Members of each organization, including leading thrombosis experts, will be onsite at each roadshow stop. Each stop includes community-based activities to encourage physical activity, including exercise bikes. Physical activity helps to improve circulation and can reduce the risk for thrombosis.
A feature article in The Irish Times highlights the roadshow and shares important information about thrombosis and the WTD campaign. The roadshow features 11 hospitals in the Ireland East Hospital Group and their communities.
