World Thrombosis Day campaign named a finalist for the Platinum PR Awards, winners to be announced on October 8 in New York City
(September 4, 2024)— World Thrombosis Day, a global awareness campaign led by the International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis (ISTH), is honored to be named as a finalist for the PRNEWS Platinum PR Award, the world’s largest and most prestigious recognition program for public relations and communications efforts.
Nominated for the Global Public Relations Campaign category by an elite panel of 200 judges, the World Thrombosis Day campaign is being recognized for its continued communications efforts to shine a spotlight on blood clots and help save lives around the world.
During the 10th anniversary year in 2023, the World Thrombosis campaign garnered 2.2 billion media impressions spanning 125 countries, including expert interviews secured for World Thrombosis Day Steering Committee members. The campaign also utilized the milestone year to partner with Melanie Bloom, the wife of the late global news correspondent David Bloom, who tragically passed away due to deep vein thrombosis (DVT) while reporting in Iraq in 2003.
To honor his legacy, the campaign produced a special tribute video and secured an interview between Al Roker, Melanie Bloom and Geoffrey Barnes, M.D., an ISTH medical expert, on NBC’s TODAY show to advocate for increased awareness of conditions related to thrombosis.
“We are honored for this recognition, which underscores the impactful strides we’ve made in raising global awareness about thrombosis and its prevention,” said Melissa DiMercurio, ISTH media relations manager. “The campaign’s success, reaching billions and engaging influential voices from around the world, highlights the ISTH’s commitment to saving lives and honoring the memory of those affected. We are deeply grateful for the support of our partners and the dedication of our Steering Committee, who together make this vital work possible.”
