ISTH partners with LEO Pharma to launch World Thrombosis Day video series on cancer-associated thrombosis (CAT)
Charlotte, N.C., United States, September 29, 2025 — World Thrombosis Day, a campaign of the International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis (ISTH), announces a collaboration with LEO Pharma for a new video series about the risk of thrombosis for patients with cancer.
Research indicates that patients with cancer are at a significantly higher risk of developing serious blood clots, compared to the general population, with some cancer patients having four times the risk[1].
The video series launches on October 1 in anticipation of World Thrombosis Day, a global awareness campaign takes place annually on October 13. The series will offer commentary from global experts discussing various aspects of cancer-associated thrombosis. Topics will include diagnosis, treatment and prevention, among others.
“At LEO Pharma, we are delighted to be a proud sponsor of World Thrombosis Day 2025 and a committed campaign supporter in the countdown to this important day. This year, we stand united in raising awareness about the serious impact cancer-associated thrombosis can have on cancer patients. Together, we aim to drive meaningful change and improve outcomes for those affected,” said Jean Monin, Executive Vice President, Critical Care Business Unit, LEO Pharma.
“The World Thrombosis Day campaign is committed to increasing awareness and education about cancer-associated thrombosis. It’s a startling fact that cancer-associated thrombosis is the second leading cause of death in people with cancer, after the disease progression itself,” said Erich De Paula, M.D., Ph.D., Chair of the ISTH World Thrombosis Day Steering Committee. “By shining a light on thrombosis in patients with cancer, we can empower patients and healthcare professionals alike to recognize the risks, take preventive steps and improve outcomes.”
