Join the campaign – World Thrombosis Day
FROM HEAD TO TOE, TAKE CONTROL: PREVENT THROMBOSIS. PROTECT YOUR HEALTH.
Every 6 seconds, someone dies from a condition related to thrombosis. That’s right — 1 in 4 people worldwide die due to blood clots. But this is preventable. That’s why the World Thrombosis Day (WTD) campaign needs YOU.
What Is World Thrombosis Day?
Held every year on October 13, World Thrombosis Day is a global movement to shine a spotlight on the often-overlooked condition of thrombosis — the formation of dangerous blood clots in veins and arteries that can lead to heart attacks, strokes, pulmonary embolisms (PE), and deep vein thrombosis (DVT).
Why It Matters
Blood clots don’t discriminate. They affect people of all ages, races and genders. Many don’t even know they’re at risk until it’s too late.
-
70% of hospital-acquired clots are preventable
-
More people die from blood clots than from AIDS, breast cancer, and motor vehicle crashes combined
-
Venous thromboembolism (VTE) is the leading cause of preventable hospital death
Together, we can change this.
