68th World Health Assembly

May 15, 2015

The ISTH has been invited to submit a statement to the World Health Organization’s 68th World Health Assembly (WHA). The Assembly, which occurs annually to discuss challenges and solutions to global health, will address the prevention and control of noncommunicable diseases (NCDs).

To reduce global burden from NCDs, the ISTH and WTD Steering Committee has issued a statement that calls for increased attention to thrombosis – which is the cause of 1 in 4 deaths worldwide – and the addition of venous thromboembolism – one of the top three leading causes of cardiovascular deaths – as a specific cause of death. The full statement is available online at https://apps.who.int/ngostatements/content/international-society-thrombosis-and-haemostasis-isth.
