Training Seminar: Beyond the Operating Room – Multimodal VTE Prevention Across the Continuum
14 October, 2025
6:30pm -
Organized by the Hong Kong College of Perioperative Nursing, this seminar offers nursing professionals a comprehensive view of Venous Thromboembolism (VTE) prevention across the full spectrum of patient care.
While VTE risks during surgery and in ICU settings are well recognized, prevention efforts often overlook the broader continuum—from hospital admission to post-discharge recovery at home. This session aims to enhance awareness of a holistic, multimodal approach to VTE prevention.
Dr. Raymond Lee, an experienced ICU specialist, will discuss VTE risk factors in various clinical scenarios, including ward-based and post-acute settings. He will explore both pharmacological and mechanical prevention strategies, and address the appropriate duration of VTE prophylaxis tailored to different patient journeys. Special attention will be given to high-risk patient profiles relevant to the Hong Kong Chinese population, such as those recovering from major surgeries, patients with reduced mobility, and individuals with other VTE-prone conditions.
This seminar is suitable for all nursing staff, across general wards, surgical departments, and community care settings, for gaining updated insights to support safer, more effective patient outcomes.
Dr. Raymond Lee is the Director of Critical Care Medicine at the Hong Kong Sanatorium & Hospital. He is known for his holistic, cross-disciplinary approach to delivering premium care that extends beyond hospital-based treatment. His dedication to community welfare and patient-centered care has made him a respected figure in advancing clinical excellence across the continuum of health.
