Marcello Di Nisio, M.D., is a senior staff physician, head of research and head of Thromboembolic Diseases outpatient clinic at the Department of Internal Medicine, University Hospital Chieti, Italy.

He completed a residency in Internal Medicine (FMH) at the University of Chieti, Italy, a Ph.D. in vascular medicine at the University of Amsterdam in the Netherlands and a Ph.D. in vascular disorders at the University G.D’Annunzio, Chieti, Italy.

He is active in the care of patients with venous disorders and teaches classes at the graduate levels.

His primary research interest is in the management of venous thromboembolism. He has written or co-authored more than 190 articles in peer-reviewed journals. He has co-authored the guidelines on the management of venous thromboembolism in cancer patients for the Italian Society of Thrombosis and Haemostasis, the Italian Society of Clinical Oncology, the American Society of Haematology and the European Society of Medical Oncology.

 

He is a member of the ISTH, European Society of Cardiology “Working Group on Pulmonary Circulation and Right Ventricular Function,” and a member of the Committee for the Guideline Activity (CALG) of the Italian Society of Thrombosis and Haemostasis (SISET).

 

Di Nisio is the recipient of the Horizon 2020 grant, where he led work package 5 in the project OPERAM (Optimizing therapy to prevent avoidable hospital admissions in the multimorbid elderly), as well as of the ISTH SSC Subcommittee Awards.

 

He serves as an editorial board member of “Atherosclerosis” and “Thrombosis & Haemostasis: Research.”
