World Thrombosis Day Unveils 2021 Campaign Plan

February 18, 2021
It’s time to start planning for World Thrombosis Day (WTD) 2021. WTD headquarters is excited to unveil the official WTD 2021 Campaign Plan, comprised of this year’s overarching campaign strategy and key programs and offerings.
The WTD campaign seeks to increase global awareness of thrombosis, including its causes, risk factors, signs/symptoms and evidence-based prevention and treatment. Ultimately, we strive to reduce death and disability caused by the condition. But we can’t deliver our mission alone—we need your help!
Download and explore the WTD 2021 Campaign Plan using the links below. We are proud to offer campaign planning materials in both English and Spanish this year. We invite you to join these efforts along with your planned activities to achieve our mission.
See below to explore key highlights coming up for WTD 2021:
2021 CONTENT AND CREATIVE FOCUS
WTD will concentrate its messaging on three primary focus areas this year: COVID-19 related thrombosis, cancer and thrombosis, and gender-specific thrombosis. The Eyes Open to Thrombosis creative is the primary brand of the campaign and taps into the need to know thrombosis by focusing on eyes – the window to the mind!
NEW COLLATERAL AND TRANSLATIONS
You asked and we listened! WTD plans to launch at least ten (10) new downloadable partner resources this year. We will provide expanded language translations for all collateral, including more resources available in Spanish, Portuguese, Japanese, and French. We are also excited to rebrand the WTD website and unveil a design refresh to make the website more user-friendly.
SOCIAL MEDIA EXPANSION
Join the WTD campaign on social media through our key channels (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, and LinkedIn). You’ll also find us on TikTok (NEW). WTD will activate new social media programs this year, including a Reddit ‘Ask Me Anything’ (AMA) series, Ask-the-Expert video series, live-streaming events, and more.
HEALTHCARE AND PATIENT ENGAGEMENT
As the world continues to navigate the COVID-19 pandemic, healthcare and patient engagement are more important than ever. The WTD campaign presents a variety of participation opportunities this year, from WTD’s Global Webinar and the WTD Twitter Chat, to the ISTH 2021 Charity Run and collaboration for global awareness days. Stay tuned for two new contests this year, including the WTD 2021 Video Contest and the WTD Artwork Contest. We will also continue to share personal stories via the #MyClotStory program.
RESEARCH AND PUBLIC AFFAIRS
Led by the WTD Scientific Steering Committee, WTD will prioritize three new research and academic opportunities in 2021. Download the plan to read more about these research and publication initiatives. Additionally, WTD continues to collaborate with the World Health Organization (WHO) Patient Safety Group to make VTE awareness and prevention a global priority.
AWARDS AND RECOGNITION
Nominate a thrombosis advocate and/or organization in your community for a WTD award! We are proud to offer two award opportunities this year: WTD Activity of the Year Award and the WTD Ambassador of the Year Award. The nomination period will open in April.
MEDIA OUTREACH
Thrombosis is becoming more widely covered in national and global media, and this year our goal is to secure 5 billion media impressions. How will we do this? WTD will activate global markets, create a rapid response plan, and leverage a diverse array of media channels.
