NATA WEBINAR – ESAIC Guidelines on perioperative venous thromboembolism prophylaxis: first update

10 October, 2024
6:00pm - 7:00pm Europe/Paris

Speaker: Prof Marc Samama – France

This update of the first European Guidelines on venous thromboembolism (VTE) prophylaxis (published in 2018) provides a comprehensive and evidence-based framework for the prevention of VTE in clinical practice. These guidelines are pivotal for clinicians in improving patient outcomes by standardizing care protocols for VTE. They have been published as a whole in the August issue of the European Journal of Anaesthesiology (EJA) which includes an Introduction chapter with the detailed methodology, an Executive Summary with all the recommendations, and twelve updated chapters or new sections. Now Urology, Plastic Surgery, Trauma, Non-Ambulatory Orthopaedic surgery and Thoracic oncologic surgery are part of this document which has been endorsed by twelve European Specialist societies and by the International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis (ISTH).

Learning objectives:
To understand the importance of the use of a very strong methodology in the quality of these ESAIC guidelines
To be aware of the most important recommendations in many different surgical settings
To compare the content of 2024 guidelines with the recommendations published in the 2018 edition
To be able to apply these guidelines in the daily clinical practice
